Notlar The letter concerns a dispute between the peoples of Soor [Sur] and Muculla [Al-Mukallā]. Newnham encloses with his letter a statement (folio 24) by Saleh bin Abdulla, brother of Abdool Habeeb, brother of the Nukeeb of Al-Mukallā, about hostilities between vessels from Sur and Al-Mukallā, which also involved an attack by Sur vessels on a dow [dhow] from Sehur [Sohar]. Newnham requests that, if the Resident considers the actions of the people of Sur to have been of a 'piratical character', that he endeavour to put a stop to hostilities through representations to the Imam of Muscat [Sa‘id bin Sulṭān al-Sa‘id]. | 4 folios | more | less
