Notlar Letter regarding the 'incorrigible mischeviousness' of Mahomed bin Khuleefeh (Shaikh Muḥammed bin Khalīfah Āl Khalīfah) of Bahrein and reports that he has been killed by his fellow Chief's for allowing Bedouins to persistently plunder towns and British subjects as well as Pelly's belief that previous British action against Bahrein has led to this outcome.The letter goes on to discuss the need for an adequate force in the Gulf to ensure the protectorate status of Bahrein; the strong assurances from the Wahabee [Wahhabi] Ameer (Abdullah ibn Faisal ibn Turki) that they will observe the peace at Sea; Captain Way and Dalhousie's current work in Bahrein and the commitment to avoiding hostile actions as well as the continuing expansion of trade in the region. | 2 folios | This letter has been written onto a loose sheet of paper which has been placed in the letterbook at the appropriate place chronologically. | more | less
