If any foreign power sought to increase its involvemenet with the Shaikhs 'the Viceroy of India was prepared to bring them under our protectorate at once, whether they liked it or not'.The Political Resident asked the Residency Agent, Sharjah, to report on the tribes of the coast and how far the authority of the Shaikhs extended inland.
