Notlar The letter is a covering letter, enclosing the translated substance of a letter (folio 145V) from the British Agent at Sharjah [Hajjī Yaqoob] to the Assistant Resident in Charge of the Persian Gulf, dated 20 October 1855. Yaqoob’s letter describes hostilities taking place between pearling boats from the Aboothabee [Abu Dhabi] and Sharja [Sharjah] fleets, involving absconding pearl divers and the wounding and seizure of men. Yaquoob writes that the Shaikh of Abu Dhabi, Zaed ben Khuleefah [Zayid bin Khalīfah], imprisoned the perpetrator of the attack when he returned from the pearl banks. In his own letter, Jones draws the Government’s attention to the Shaikh’s good conduct. | 1 folio | more | less
