Notlar This volume consists of correspondence received by George Nathaniel Curzon, mainly on the subject of his recently published book, Persia and the Persian Question, but also on other matters relating to Persia.The letters are from friends, acquaintances and other correspondents, including a number of army officers, diplomats, writers and travellers with an interest in Persia, some of whom describe their own experiences of travelling in Persia.Most of the letters compliment Curzon on his new book and, in some cases, provide suggested revisions and corrections. Some of the letters describe the internal affairs of Persia, from the perspective of British officials who have resided there. Also discussed are Russian interests in Persia. One particular letter, received by Curzon from Albert Houtum-Schindler and dated 13 September 1893, includes an enclosure of extensive notes and lists on the genealogy of the Kajars [Qajar dynasty] (ff 102-156).Other notable correspondents include the following: Henry George Gerald Cadogan, Sir Henry Creswicke Rawlinson, Henry Lake Wells, Sidney John Alexander Churchill, Isabella Bishop, Percy Molesworth Sykes, Sir Clements Robert Markham, Edward Augustus Wood Stotherd, and the British Consul General, Meshed. | 1 volume (183 folios) | The papers proceed in approximate chronological order from the front to the rear of the volume. | Foliation: the foliation sequence (used for referencing) commences at the inside front cover with 1, and terminates at the inside back cover with 185; these numbers are written in pencil, are circled, and are located in the top right corner of the recto side of each folio.
