Notlar Large steatite scarab of Amenhetep IIII with the second cartouche of the king erased during the El Amarna period as it contained the name of Amen. The entire upper side of the piece is missing. This historical scarab was issued by the monarch to state the limits of his Empire and to record the geneology of his Queen. The scarab was originally covered with a beautiful blue-green glaze of which only traces remain. Pierced. Translation of hieroglyphs is as follows: Line (1) The living Horus (here follow the titles of Amenophis III and his Queen Thyi). Line (5) The name of her father is Line (6) Yuaa, the name of her mother is Thuaa Line (7) She is the wife of the victorious king Line (8) His southern boundary is Kary (In Ethiopia) Line (9) (and) the northern boundary is Meso- (10), potamia (Naharini). Condition: Upper side missing. Left side chipped. | more | less
