The economic and strategic considerations of the construction of a railway linking Calais, Berlin, Baghdad and India are discussed in detail.The principal correspondents are the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs (Sir Edward Grey), the British Ambassador to Persia, (Sir George Head Barclay) the British Ambassador to Russia (Sir Arthur Nicholson); representatives of the Foreign Office and India Office.The correspondence from the Government departments from May 1910 onwards contains a thick black border according to official mourning protocol following the death of King Edward VII on 9 May 1910.The subject 3874 (Railways: Trans-Persian Railway) consists of 1 volume, IOR/L/PS10/160.The volume has a divider which gives the subject and part numbers, the year the subject file was opened, and a list of correspondence references contained in that part by year.
