Notlar Letter in response to Colonel Phayre's letter No.1218 of 30 August 1870 stating that as the title 'Khan of Beloochistan' was not one officially used by the Khan the matter was not resolved and that there did not appear to be any hidden meaning behind it as Colonel Phayre had attempted to surmise. The letter goes on to discuss the Seistan [Sīstān] correspondence, and His Highness response to earlier correspondence which Merewether felt was a proper answer and which should have removed all suspicions from Colonel Phayre's mind of the Khan having any designs on Seistan. The letter concludes by again noting the adverse criticism still being used by the Colonel towards Captain Charles Henry Harrison and noting that the phrase 'perfect quiet' used in the Captain's political diary was clearly only meant to relate to the week being reported on, and not as Colonel Phayre continued to insist on being some reference to the ongoing state of affairs in Khelat. | 1 folio | more | less
