Notlar The letter relates to an incident in between thirty and forty slaves were imported into Kishm [Qeshm] from Sohar, and sold publicly in the island's market. Enclosed with Kemball's letter is a translation (folio 297) of a "letter of remonstrance" at the incident, sent by Kemball to Sheikh Abdul Rahman ben Suggar, the Governor of Qeshm, dated 1 April 1853. A translation of Sheikh Abdul's reply to Kemball (folio 298), dated 13 April 1853, is also enclosed with the letter, in which the Sheikh denies knowledge and involvement of the import and sale of the slaves.
