Notlar Family letter from Nathan b. Samuel, a schoolmaster in a small town, to Abū l-Ḥasan in the capital (addressed to the Babylonian synagogue), asking him for his indulgence after some unfriendly words had been said to him. The writer describes his hardship, explaining he had to pawn garments to cover the costs of the holidays. He also conveys greetings to Yeḥiʾel ‘the great judge’ (Yeḥiʾel b. Elyaqim, active 1224-1233 CE), and to a number of other people such as Sitt Saʿāda, the writer’s sister and her husband Abū l-Bahā, Abū Naṣr, and many other family members. | Condition: holes, slightly faded | Layout: 25 lines (recto); 28 lines + marginalia (verso) | more | less
