Notlar Letter discusses several administrative issues including the arrival of the Eagle(commanded by Captain Adam Shirreff), the Yarmouth(commanded by Captain William Wilson, with Mr William Browne) and the Bombay MerchantSnow (commanded by Captain Charles Virtue). The arrival of George Abraham, William Petrie and Captain Adam Sheriff and the subsequent death of George Abraham is also reported. The finances of the residency are discussed in detail. The departure of five seepoys [sepoys] is reported. The letter mentions a terrible earthquake in the city of Tavris [Tabriz] that is reported to have killed 50-60,000 people. The political situation in Persia and the Gulf is also discussed in some detail.Two items originally sent with the letter immediately follow it in the file. The two items are as follows:1) A list of Seepoys [Sepoys] came from Bombay the 8 February 1777 and departed 15 July 1780 and details of their pay.2) A Manifest of Treasure, Pearls and Freight laden at Bushire on the EagleSnow, Lieutenant Joseph Alderson.Shipped by the Eagle. | 2 folios | more | less
