Notlar Letter regarding the likelihood that representations would be made by the Government of Fars to Tehran in an attempt to prejudice the good understanding between Great Britain and Persia, and enclosing copies and translations of all the information in Colonel Stannus's possession relating to the subject (documents no longer enclosed). The letter goes on to discuss Zekee Khan [Zakī Khān]'s attempts to imply a disrespectful insinuation on the part of Colonel Stannus towards the Prince of Shiraz (Ḥosayn-‘Alī Mīrzā); Colonel Stannus's attempts to state clearly that he had no influence to dictate to the Imam of Muscat what actions he should or should not take with regards to the Shaik of Bushire; the implications made about the Marine depot at Bassidore [Bāsa’īdū] and Stannus's hope that it would not be difficult to disprove them especially given the new sense of protection of property and trade provided by the British vessels in the Persian Gulf. The letter concludes by informing Lieutenant Colonel Macdonald that the instructions conveyed in the Royal Firman regarding the restitution of property wrecked on the coast of Dashtee [Dashtī] had still not been carried out. The letter also refers to a detailed statement of all the items plundered, which is no longer enclosed. | 2 folios | more | less
