Notlar The letter is enclosing copies of communications, which convey information respecting the claims the Nizam ed Dowlah [Niẓām al-Dawlah] has against Aga Ismail [Āghā Muḥammad Ismā’īl Khān]. It further informs the Resident that in consequence of this information, the order for withholding the payment of his pension has been rescinded.It further instructs the Resident to provide the Bombay Government with information regarding how the pension should be divided up between Aga Ismail's dependents.Two enclosures:1. A copy of a letter from John Adam, Chief Secretary to the Government, Fort William, Calcutta to Henry Willock, dated 26 December 1818.The letter acknowledges the receipt of Willock's dispatch 'No 22', dated 15 August 1818. It notes that that it is the opinion of the Governor General of India, that the authority of Government should not be exercised to resolves a transaction of a purely 'private and commercial nature'. It further states that it is also his opinion that Company pensions should not be used for the purposes of settling private debt.2. A copy of a letter from John Adam, Chief Secretary to the Government, Fort William, Calcutta to Francis Warden, Chief Secretary to the Government, Political Department, Bombay, dated 26 December 1818.The letter informs the Bombay Government that the Governor General of India has chosen not to allow a portion of Aga Ismail's pension to be diverted for the payment of his debt to the Nizam ed Dowlah; payment of said pension is ordered to be recommenced. It further requests information to be supplied regarding who is in receipt of Aga Ismail's pension (given the uncertainty as to whether he is still alive) and the condition of various branches of his family that could be illegible for Company support. | 3 folios | more | less
