Notlar The file concerns two items of correspondence relating to Zanzibar.The first is an anonymous letter to the Sultan of Muscat and Oman (in Arabic, with English translation), dated 14 February 1901, concerning Hilal bin Amr, former Vizier to the Sultan of Zanzibar. The letter warns the Sultan that Hilal bin Amr, who was then in Oman, was intending to import arms from French-held Jibouti [Djibouti]. The letter is accompanied by a covering letter from the Political Agent, Muscat to the Political Resident in the Persian Gulf.The second item of correspondence is a letter dated 28 February 1905 from John Houston Sinclair, Acting British Agent and Consul General at Zanzibar, to Major William George Grey, Political Agent and Consul, Muscat, denying a rumour that Seyid Ali bin Hamud, the Sultan of Zanzibar, had been sent to England as a punishment for engaging in political intrigues with Germany. | 1 file (4 folios) | The papers are arranged in approximate chronological order from the front to the rear of the file. | Foliation: the foliation sequence (used for referencing) commences at the front cover with 1, and terminates at the inside back cover with 6; these numbers are written in pencil, are circled, and are located in the top right corner of the recto side of each folio. | more | less
