Notlar Porter's reply to Hennell's letter (ff 17-18) stating the grievances held by the Bushire Assistant Surgeon James McAlister against Porter, provoked by the uncourteous letter McAlister claims to have received from Porter (see f 15). Porter gives his version of events surrounding the origins of the letter, which relate to McAlister sending a message to that Porter on board the Company ship Cliveof the drunken conduct of one of his men at the Residency. Porter insists that he would have collected the man earlier, had he not been detained by McAlister (for medical treatment) earlier, and exclaims surprise at McAlister's claims, stating that he sees no reason to withdraw the original message. | 2 folios | more | less
