Notlar	In this letter, James Dow, Assistant Surgeon, temporarily in charge of the Residency, acknowledges the receipt of Woodly's letter of the previous day's date, which concerned the result of an investigation, held on board the Honourable Company cruiser, the Benares, into the conduct of a fifer belonging to the Udny. Dow further acknowledges the letter's request for measures to be taken to secure the fifer, named John Neal, who has threatened to take the lives of his commander and chief officers.
