Notlar In this letter, William Bruce, Resident at Bushire, refers to his letter of 15 January 1820, which this letter follows. He describes how Captain Francis Erskine Loch sent a summons to the Shaik [Shaikh ‘Abdullāh bin Aḥmad Āl Khalīfah of Bahrain] for the delivery of all the boats and vessels belonging to the piratical ports on either side of the Gulf which might be in his harbour. Bruce reports that he has burnt ten boats and that the Shaik has agreed not to admit the vessels and craft of the piratical ports into his harbour until he receives intimation from a British authority. Bruce states that an intimation has been sent to Rahma Ben Jauber [Rahma bin Jabir], who is now at Katife [Al-Qatif], informing him that he is not at liberty to allow any of his craft to leave Katife for the purpose of committing depredations against Bahrain and other ports. Bruce concludes by stating that he is soon to return to Bushire on board the Eden.A translation of the aforementioned intimation to Rahma Ben Jauber follows this letter. | 3 folios | more | less
