Notlar The letter is enclosing translations of communications received from parties subscribing to the continuation of the terms of the Maritime Truce 1843, and states that they give a general indication of the attitudes of the 'Arabian chiefs' towards the renewal of the treaty, or its replacement. It also encloses a copy of proposed terms for the treaty's renewal for the consideration of Government. It discusses the scruples some chiefs and tribes may have over the terms of a renewed or new treaty, but explains that the Resident believes they will ultimately be swayed by the benefits they have enjoyed from the existing treaty. The letter is also used by the Resident to advocate for the continuation of the practice of presenting gifts to 'Arab chiefs' that have remained faithful to their treaty obligations. The item has five enclosures:1.
