Notlar The letter is reporting that the Resident has received intelligence indicating that Shaikh Saeed bin Tahnoon, Chief of Aboothabee [Abu Dhabi], is proceeding to Bunder Abbas [Bandar-e ʻAbbās] with an armed force; the Resident has therefore called on him to withdraw. The item has four enclosures:1. Translation of a letter from the Resident in the Persian Gulf to Syed Soweynee, Governor of Muscat, dated 21 March 1854.The enclosure is informing the Governor that the Resident has received intelligence indicating that the Chief of Aboothabee has put to sea in vessels bound for Bunder Abbas with a force of armed men. It explains that he has been warned by Commodore George Robinson that such an action would be considered irregular without the prior sanction of the Resident. It is further explained that this measure was taken purely as a result of the terms of the Maritime Peace, and for the prevention of piracy; it should not be taken as an indicator of poor relations between the Britain and Muscat.2. Letter from the Resident in the Persian Gulf, at Bushire to William Taylor Thomson, HM Chargé d'affaires at the Court of Persia, at Tehran, dated 15 March 1854.The enclosure concerns the dispute that has arisen between Tahmasp Meerza, the Prince Governor of Fars, and the authorities at Muscat over Bunder Abbas. It further encloses No. 3 and 4 on the subject.3. Translation of a letter from the Resident in the Persian Gulf to Shaikh Hassan bin Abdullah, Chief of Charrack [Bandar-e Chārak], dated 14 March 1854.The enclosure is informing the Shaikh that as a subject of Persia it is his duty to follow the orders of that Government. It further explains that the Resident does not expect the scenario of war at sea to unfold, as both the English and Persian Governments value the Maritime Peace.4. Translation of a letter from Shaikh Hassan bin Abdullah, Chief of Charrack to the Resident in the Persian Gulf, dated 14 March 1854.The enclosure is requesting guidance on how to respond to orders from the Persian Government instructing the Shaikh to put to sea against another port such as Bunder Abbas; the Shaikh is concerned that such an action would be viewed by the British as a violation of the Maritime Peace. | 5 folios | more | less
