The letters are included and consist of the following:A letter from W Valgar to the commander of the ship Mercury, dated 20 June, explaining that his own ship (the Colonel Macauley) has been assessed as in too poor condition to continue to Bussora [Basra] as intended and requesting convoy until Bombay.A letter to W Valgar, commander of the ship Macauley, dated 19 June 1816, stating that his ship is unfit for further voyage.
