Notlar The letter is a covering letter with two enclosures, relating to maritime hostilities between the inhabitants of Sharjah and Smaysmah. The enclosures are as follows:1. Letter no.213 of 1853 (folios 181-84B) from Kemball to Commodore George Robinson, Commanding Officer Persian Gulf Squadron, dated 19 July 1853. Kemball informs Robinson that, in the wake of recent incidents of piracy and the abduction of slaves (the incidents initially described by Kemball, folios 145-46), further troubles have taken place, in which the people of Smaymah (who come under the jurisdiction of the Sheikh of Bahrain) have taken a boat belonging to Rusul Khymah [Ra's al-Khaymah] that was bound for Bahrain. Kemball instructs Robinson to take enclosed letters to the chiefs of Bahrain and Ra's al-Khaymah, which will inform them of the requisitions they should make. The letters mentioned are not enclosed in the file. Appended to Kemball's letter is a list of the items on Ra's al-Khaymah buggarah [boat], taken by the people of Smaymah.2. Letter no.112 of 1853 (folios 184B-85) from Robinson to Kemball, dated 12 September 1853. Robinson reports that he has successfully recover sums of money as restitution from the Sheikh of Bahrain and Ra's al-Khaymah. However, he notes that it was with some difficulty and time that restitution was exacted from Sheikh Mohamed ben Khuleefa [Muhammad bin Khalifa], who was insistent, states Robinson, that he could not be held responsible for the actions of the people of Smaymah on the Guttur [Qatar] coast. | 7 folios | more | less
