Notlar Letter requesting that Charles Alison (British Minister at Tehran) forward the enclosed message as a telegram to Earl Canning (Viceroy of India).The telegram reported that the Persian Force at Merv, which consisted of 30,000 men, 27 guns, and 20,000 followers, had been defeated by the Tekkie [Tekke] Turcomans and that Pelly had just returned from the camp of the Prince commanding the force who had escaped with some 8,000 unarmed followers.The telegram also reports on the separate attack on the surviving force by the Saloor [Salur] and Sarookh [Shahrukh] Turcomans after they attempted to seek refuge with them; smaller disturbances amongst the Jumsheedee [Jamshidi] tribe and at Mesmenah [Maīmanah]; exaggerated reports on the state of the frontier; and advising that orders could be sent to await Pelly at Candahar [Kandahar] if marked to the care of Sirdar Mahomed Ameer Khan [Mohammad Amir Khan]. | 2 folios | more | less
