Notlar The letter is enclosing extracts of intelligence concerning Oman that have been transmitted by the Resident's Agent at Sharjah. The intelligence concerns the steps taken by Syed Ges ben Azan to obtain the assistance of Shaikh Sultan bin Suggur [Sulṭān bin Saqr], Chief of Ra's al-Khaymah, and Shaikh Saeed ben Tahnoon, Chief of Aboothabee [Abu Dhabi] with an attack on Sohar [Ṣuḥār]. It notes that permission has been obtained from Egypt for a maritime expedition to Batinah [Al-Bāṭinah].It outlines the Resident's fear's that Sultan bin Suggur is desirous of using this has an excuse to invade the Imam of Muscat's territories. It also outlines his stance on the matter; that he should not commit the British to a definitive line of action, but should be ready to provide friendly mediation if called upon. | 4 folios | more | less
