Notlar Letter regarding Pelly's arrival at Muscat to recognise Sayed Soulem [Salim II bin Thuwaini] as Sultan, the Muscat people's loss of respect for the British, their detestation of Soulem and Pelly's expectation that attempts will be made on his life.Pelly goes on to report on a mutiny on board a ship which has killed one man and left another wounded and which is a difficult case that he is going to recommend be tried in Calcutta or Bombay. He also goes on to report his intentions to travel to Charbar [Chahabar] on the Mekran coast where Sayed Soulem is reported to be selling the late Sultan's household into slavery.The letter concludes by reporting on Mr Le Jean who has accompanied him on his travels and whose speciality is Geography and informs Frere of their conversations on Nearchus' voyage and his landing at Menow which gave the island of Ormuz [Hormoz] its name; his plans to travel to the Mussendom promontory to study the dialect of the small tribes there; developments in Constantinople and their intention to have a consular court for the Bushire residency, as well as the need for a bridge over the river on the Bushire-Shiraz road. | 2 folios | more | less
