Notlar The letter and its enclosure relate to the liberation in 1853 of thirty-six slaves by the Shaikh of Lingah [Bandar-e Lengeh]. Anderson writes that Kemball commend the Shaikh for his actions, on behalf of the Court of Directors. Enclosed with Anderson’s letter is an extract of paragraphs 7 and 8 of despatch no.32 of 1854 from the Court of Directors, dated 22 November 1854. Paragraph 7 gives credit to the Shaikh of Bandar-e Lengeh for his actions, noting that it is an indication of the disposition of the Persian authorities to act on their slave trade engagements. Paragraph 8 notes that the liberated slaves, most of whom were children, have been placed with Christian families or in the care of the Reverend Mr Candy at his institution in Chinchpoogly [Chinchpokli] in Bombay. | 2 folios | more | less
