Notlar The letter gives more details regarding the death of Lieutenant William Burns (as reported in IOR/R/15/1/3, p 1 2) who had arrived in Bushire on 9 May 1778.The letter reports that in consequence of Ally Mahomet Kahn's [Ali Mohammed Khan, the Zand Governor of Basra] latest defeat by Arab forces that two Gallivats had set sail from Bushire to Bussora [Basra] by order of the Nakheeb [Karim Khan Zand] and that two ships were also sent there from Bunderich [Bander-e Rig] and Genova [Bandar Ganaveh]. The letter also reports that Captain Charles Virtue of the Bombay Merchants had arrived in Bushire on the 11 July 1778 with goods from Bengal, Mysore and Muscat. The letter concludes by stating that reports of a French ship that had put in at Muscat after attempting to take an English vessel from Surat were 'entirely groundless'.Shipped by express dow via Muscat.The date span of the entire file (1778 to 1787) is marked on the top right-hand side of the first page of the item in large handwritten-text. | 1 folio | A thin strip of the right-hand side of the first page of the item is missing but the text remains legible on the whole. | more | less
