Tarih [14--?]
Notlar Shelfmark: Ann Arbor, University of Michigan, Special Collections Research Center Isl. Ms. 39 | Origin: Lacks dated colophon. Paper may suggest 15th century. | Former shelfmark: British Museum, London "No. 26. Glosses on al-Mawakif." ; possible former shelfmark "۲٥" on fol.1a (p.1). | Binding: Pasteboards covered in red brown leather ; Type II binding (with flap) ; doublures in brown leather ; upper and lower covers each bear a superbly executed gold-tooled mandorla accented by fine rope border extending to form pendants and filled with interlace (compare Weisweiler W 89-95), along with tooled rope border and gold-tooled cornerpieces ; design is continued on envelope flap ; sewn in cream thread, two stations, though sewing broken or completely lost in many quires ; many loose leaves ; endbands virtually gone, only traces remain ; in fair condition with abrasion, staining, lifting of leather at spine and fore-edge though cover is nearly entirely detached from textblock and ill-fitting (large). | Support: non-European (likely Arab) laid paper with 8-9 laid lines per cm. (horizontal) and chain lines arranged in groups of three (vertical) with 9-14 mm. between the chains and 31-42 mm. between the groups. | Decoration: Text rubricated with keywords, section headings, overlining, etc. in red. | Script: Nastaʻlīq (talik) ; elegant Turkish (?) hand ; virtually serifless ; effect of slight tilt to the right and occasional descent of words to the baseline ; final words and letters of lines occasionally superscript ; mainly closed counters ; some sweeping descenders, more tapered ; some free assimilation of letters ; point of nūn assimilated with bowl. | Layout: Written in 29 lines per page ; frame-ruled (impression of ruling board evident). | Collation: V+1 (11), V (21), VI (33), 3 V(63), I (65), 6 V(125), I (127), 2 V(147) ; chiefly quinions ; mid-bifolium of second quire was mistakenly placed between first and second quire such that it was mistakenly paginated pp.23-26, now correctly placed between pp.34-35 ; catchwords present though occasionally lacking, consistently appear on final leaf of each quire ; pagination in pencil, Western numerals, supplied during digitization. | Ms. codex. | Fine copy of the gloss of Ḥasan Chalabī on al-Jurjānī's commentary on the work of al-Ījī, al-Mawāqif fī ʻilm al-kalām, on scholastic theology. | more | less
