He is also known as Ismā‘īl ibn al-Ḥasan (إسماعيل بن الحسن) or ibn al-Ḥusayn (بن الحسين). The work is dedicated to the Khwārizm Shāh ‘Alā’ al-Dīn Qizil Arslān Atsiz ibn Muḥammad (علاء الدين قزل أرسلان أتسز بن محمد, reg. 1127-56; see f. 2r, lines 10-12).The text is said in the preface (ff. 1v, line 24 ult.-2r, line 1) to be divided into two sections (جزءان): the Theoretical Section (الجزء العلمي) and the Practical Section (الجزء العملي).
