Notlar Samuel Hennell acknowledges the receipt of John Patterson Porter's letter, no. 128, dated 31 October 1850, which included a copy of Captain Archibald MacDonald's report of his proceedings off Aboothabee [Abu Dhabi], on the HC steam frigate Auckland. Hennell states that MacDonald's letter suggests that the Sheik of Aboothabee [Sheikh Said bin Tahnun Al Nahayan] had signified his consent to Hennell's requisitions prior to MacDonald's arrival. Hennell attributes this prompt compliance to Lieutenant Frederick Erskine Manners's decision to take the two brigs [the Tigrisand the Euphrates] into the inner roads of Aboothabee. Hennell also commends MacDonald's skill in manoeuvring the Aucklandinto the inner harbour. | 1 folio | more | less
