Notlar Letter confirming that the Jenebah [Janaba] tribe of Soor [Sur] orchestrated the plunder and murder of British Subjects at Soor and detailing Pelly's subsequent actions in dealing with the tribe, including his letters requesting reparations, their response and the decision to open fire on their fort and destroy or capture their crafts.The letter goes on to give assurances that all non-combatants had departed the town and area and that the small amount of huts and properties that had caught fire had not caused any significant damage before outlining the hope of ongoing outcomes from these actions in securing peace and reducing slavery along the shoreline.Enclosed with the letter are copies of Pelly's correspondence with the tribe 11 February 1866 and his correspondence with Captain Pasley in co-ordinating the attack along with the Captain's reports of the event 24 January to 13 February 1866. | 7 folios | more | less
