Notlar The letter reports that Ally Mahomet Kahn [Ali Mohammed Khan, the Zand Governor of Basra], in response to his defeat by Arab forces gathered a force of 8,000 men but was totally defeated by an Arab force of 12-15,000 and was killed or taken prisoner. Since their victory, the Arabs (under the leadership of Shaikh Yamar) are said to have surrounded Bussora [Basra] and stopped people entering and leaving. The letter also notes that Shaikh Nassir is leaving Bussora on pilgrimage to Mecca and at his request has been paid 4,000 rupees for 4 years rent of the factory in Bushire.A supplementary note added on 17 October 1778 informs Bombay of the arrival of the EagleSnow under command of Captain Adam Sheriff.
