Al-Kafiyah." | Binding: Pasteboards covered in brown leather (interesting grain) ; Type II binding (with flap) ; board linings in laid paper ; upper and lower covers bear blind-stamped lozenge with floral vegetal composition (horizontal and vertical symmetry) and border in tooled fillets framing series of x-shaped stamps ; desgin continues on flap with blind-stamped rosette and tooled frame ; sewn in white thread, two stations ; endbands gone, only traces of primaries remain ; in poor condition with significant abrasion, some lifting and losses of leather, delamination of boards, moisture damage, etc. ; housed in envelope. | Support: European laid paper with 10 laid liner per cm. (vertical), chain lines spaced roughly 25 mm. apart (horizontal), watermark with grapes and "ROUERGUE" (compare Heawood 3375) ; smooth, thin and fairly translucent ; significant staining and moisture damage to latter quires in particular. | Decoration: Keywords, section headings, and abbreviations rubricated. | Script: Naskh ; elegant Ottoman hand ; mainly serifless though occasional right-sloping head serifs appear ; mainly open counters ; occasional sweeping descenders ; fully vocalized. | Layout: Written in 11 lines per page ; frame-ruled. | Collation: 5 V(50), I (52) ; chiefly quinions ; catchwords present ; pagination in pencil, Western numerals, supplied during digitization. | Colophon: "Scribal," rectangular, reads: "تمت الكتاب بعون الله الملك الوهاب في ١ صفر سنة ١١٧٨" | Explicit: "فيرد ما حذف والمفتوح ما قبلها تقلب الفا" | Incipit: "الكلمة لفظ وضع لمعنى مفرد وهي اسم وفعل وحرف ..." | Title from collation statement on p.102. | Ms. codex. | Elegant copy of Ibn al-Ḥājib's grammatical treatise on naḥw (syntax). | more | less
