Notlar The file contains telegrams announcing the deaths of members of the British Royal Family, British Government officials and ruling families and presidents of other countries, and their funerals. Among those who passed away in the Royal Family are the Empress Maria of Russia, aunt of King George V in 1928, Princess Victoria, sister of King George V in 1935, and Princess Beatrice, the last surviving daughter of Queen Victoria in 1944. Examples of British officials and world leaders who died between 1927 and 1950 are the Political Resident in the Persian Gulf, Bushire, Hugh Biscoe in 1933, King Fuad of Egypt in 1936, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk in 1938, President Roosevelt of the United States of America (USA) in 1945, and Mahatma Ghandi in 1948.The telegrams were circulated between the Political Agencies in the Gulf. At the Bahrain Agency, flags were flown at half-mast as a mark of respect on the occasion of the funerals. The correspondence is mainly between The Political Residency in the Persian Gulf, Bushire, the Political Agency in Bahrain, the British Consul in Bushire, Shaikh Hamad bin ‘Isa al-Khalifa, Shaikh Salman bin Hamad bin ‘Isa al-Khalifa, and Shaikha Ayshah bint Rashid al-Khalifa (widow of the late Ruler of Bahrain, Shaikh Hamad bin ‘Isa al-Khalifa). | 1 file (127 folios) | The papers are arranged in chronological order from the front to the rear of the file.Folios 116 to 127 are file notes. These file notes were moved from IOR/R/15/2/1666 upon discovering that they have been previously displaced. This was discovered during cataloguing for Qatar Foundation Partnership Programme. The title on the file notes is ‘Ceremonials and Honours’ which clearly match the current file. Also looking at the notes themselves we can tell that the descriptions and the dates provided all belong to the file. Therefore, these were removed, rearranged, and re-foliated accordingly and now they are part of file IOR/R/15/2/1667. | The main foliation sequence (used for referencing) commences at the front cover with 1 and terminates at the inside back cover with 129; these numbers are written in pencil, are circled, and are located in the top right corner of the recto side of each folio. An additional foliation sequence is also present in parallel between ff 3-115; these numbers are also written in pencil, but are not circled. ff 116-127 have been moved from IOR/R/15/2/1666 and have been refoliated to fit this file; previous circled numbers have been crossed out, while the uncircled original foliation has been left alone. | more | less
