Notlar The letter relates to the forthcoming season’s slave trade between East Africa and the Gulf. Jones writes that most vessels returning with slaves land their cargo at Soor [Ṣūr] or points further south, and then march slaves overland to the Arab coast, in order to avoid British patrols. Jones recommends the deployment of a steam vessel to patrol at the right time of the season, to intercept vessels returning from East Africa and Zanzibar. | 2 folios | more | less
