Notlar Letter thanking Pelly for the reports he sent him and expressing his hopes that the Government will permit him to carry out his plans in regard to the Bahrein business, as well as suggesting that the Wahabees [Wahhabi] are likely to cause trouble again unless they are firmly dealt with. The letter also discusses Colonel Herbert Disbrowe and his behaviour at Muscat, along with the rumours that he is due to leave which Merewether believes would be a relief to both the Government and Pelly.Other matters discussed include the arrival of two man of war vessels in the Gulf; the importance of trade there; happenings in Sind 1868-1869 including famine, the destruction of crops by locusts, unheard of levels of rainfall, and outbreaks of Cholera; Merewether's cold weather tour, including the work undertaken at Hydrabad [Hyderābād]; his need to return to Kurachee [Karāchi] for christmas to open an exhibition, and enquiring whether Pelly will be able to come and see them then. | 4 folios | more | less
