Notlar Letter informing His Highness of his having obtained an interview with the Viceroy of Hindoostan [Hindustan] at which he laid before him all matters relating to His Highness and his dominions. The letter goes on to inform His Highness that he (Pelly) would shortly be proceeding to Africa for a time and imparting some advice now that their official relations had ended.Pelly's advise to His Highness was to concentrate all his energies on improving his own territory and the maintenance of frank and friendly relations with all states, which would ally well with the English policy of respecting the rights of others and maintenance of her own.Enclosed with the letter is the following:Letter to Hussein Ali Khan, Neub-ool-Hookoomah, Herat encouraging him to follow the advice which he (Pelly) had given him whilst in Herat including that honesty was always the best policy and that he should serve his master, Sultan Ahmed Khan with a singleness of purpose and for the happiness of his people.A pencil note in the margin of the first folio records that no official copies of the letter were kept, save for the copy given to Colonel Pelly. | 2 folios | more | less
