Stannus reports that a squadron of ships from Muscat had anchored in Bushire Roads with orders to seize any vessel belonging to Sheikh Abdool Russool Khan [‘Abd al-Rasūl], but not to interfere in any other way with Bushire or its trade. The squadron was to restore all the property belonging to the merchants and agents of Bushire that had been taken when the Sheikh's vessel the
Nussretshahwas captured by the Imam of Muscat [Sa‘īd bin Sultān Āl Sa‘īd], and would then proceed to Bussorah [Basra]. The consequences of the expedition had thus far been much less serious than expected, but there was still much scope for disturbance among the Arab tribes on the Persian coast. The letter is accompanied by the following enclosures:extract of a translation of a letter from the Imam of Muscat to Stannus, dated 12 July 1826, certified as a true translation by Samuel Hennell, Assistant to the Resident in the Persian Gulf, stating that the Imam had sent up the vessel formerly belonging to Abdool Russool under the charge of his ships, and that his ships had orders to capture every one of the Abdool Russool's vessels they came into contact with;extract of a letter from Stannus to the Imam of Muscat, dated 31 July 1826, praising him for his moderation at Bushire, and expressing confidence that the Imam would approve of Stannus's request to the squadron at Bushire to land the goods from the
Nussretshahfree of duties. | 4 folios | more | less
