Notlar Full-color facsimile of an Ottoman illuminated manuscript completed in 1582 as a commission for the sultan Murad III, and now housed in the Bibliothèque nationale de France, Paris, under shelf mark "Suppl. turc 242." Its text is an Ottoman Turkish adaptation of an earlier Arabic miscellany entitled the "Book of Wonders," containing works on astrology, marvels, and demonology associated with the 9th-century Arab astronomer Abu Mashar al-Balkhi, and works on divination and fortune-telling ascribed to Jaʻfar Sadiq. See commentary volume, p. 199., Title from notarial certificate in facsimile volume., Facsimile produced with Western-style rounded and backed text stock and Islamic-style cover made of die-stamped leather with foredge flap. In clamshell box with rounded spine., Facsimile issued in a limited edition of 987 copies numbered with Arabic numerals, and 77 copies with Roman numerals., The commentary volume was also issued in Spanish, under title: Libro de la felicidad., Commentary volume includes contributions by Miguel Ángel de Bunes Ibarra, Evrim Türkçelik, Günsel Renda, and Stefano Carboni., An English translation by Yorgos Dedes of the manuscript's Ottoman Turkish text, with title "The ascensions of felicity and the fountains of nobility," is on pages 201-431 of the commentary volume., Commentary volume includes bibliographical references., Manuscript facsimile text in Ottoman Turkish, written in Arabic script; commentary volume in English.
