Das Vorwort ist ebenfalls direkt an Tağıyev gerichtet., This rare booklet that has its text in the shape of a dialogue between a Shiite Molla and the Hidden Voice from the spiritual world (or of the Cosmos) was published amidst the Azerbaijani discussion on identity, language and role of religion in Azerbaijan under the sponsorship of Azerbaijani industrialist and philanthropist Zeynelabidin Taqiyev (Zeynalabdin Taghiyev). This book was printed in 1902 in Baku and written in a form of a dialogue between an âkhûnd (mullâ) and the Unhearable Sound of the Cosmos (هاتف الغيب). It was published by an anonymous author signed as Khâdim-i millet (Servant of the nation). The text was written on May 20 and published ten days later in the middle of the public discussion among the Azerbaijani intellectuals on the subject of Azerbaijani identity, "Turkism" and "Azerbaijaninism", language and the role of the religion. Only a week earlier, on May 14th, an article on language reform and other burning problems, titled Hâdim-i millet was published in a newspaper Şark-ı Rûs (Russian East). This book is a possible reply on the article. The author of the article, Mähämmäd agha Shahtakhtinski (1846 – 1931) was a influential figure on the realm of national identity and language. Due to his extreme views he was much disliked by his contemporaries. In 1912, he was charged as a spy and deported to Russia. A new Azerbaijani alphabet which replaced the Arabic-Persian one in 1928 was based on Shahtakhtinski's early trials to develop a new Latin alphabet. The printing of the book was sponsored, according to the imprint in a decorative cartouche above the introduction (cf. page I), by Haji Zeynalabidin Taqiyov (1823, or 1838 – 1924). Zeynalabidin Taqiyef (Taqiyov) was an Azerbaijani industrial magnate and a philanthropist, who sponsored numberless cultural, educational and religious institutions, founded scholarships and financed the publishing of books on the territory of today's Azerbaijan and Russia.
