Notlar Ms. codex, Title from illuminated headpiece at opening., Layout: Written in 11 lines per page (single column) ; frame-ruled (impression of ruling board visible)., Script: Naskh (nesih) ; fine specimen of Ottoman calligraphy., Decoration: Elegant illuminated headpiece (ʻunwān / sarlawḥ) sets off title at opening, headpiece consists of a composition of vegetal forms (resembling plumes) in white with shades of lavender, blue, and pink accents surmounted by floral forms in shades of pink, red and lavender with green leaves, all on a stippled gold ground ; written area throughout is surrounded by heavy gold frame defined by black fillets ; textual dividers appear in the form of illuminated divided roundels with red and blue accents ; tailpiece of gold-painted floral designs defines triangular close of text., Binding: Pasteboards covered in brown leather ; Type II binding (with flap) ; pastedowns and flyleaves in bright pink surface-dyed, textured and coated paper (embossed with scrolling floral designs) ; upper and lower covers each gold-painted with floral composition in central cartouche, cornerpieces and stamped borders of gold defined by gold fillets., Origin: Lacks dated colophon but presentation note in different Ottoman hand (likely the patron) appears at close in name of al-Sayyid al-Shaykh Ḥasan al-Khayrī al-Naqshaband (ie Şeyh Hasan el-Hayrî el-Nakşibend) of Yahya Efendi Türbesi (Istanbul) accompanied by seal impression. Note urges the reader to recite the Naqshbandī prayers (beginning with al-Fatḥīyah). Seal impression also appears in outer margin at opening. Date of transcription is not specified, though decoration, etc suggest date of late 18th century.
