Sample Text
We present to our readers sixteen works by Ahmet Refik Altınay, published by Kitaphane-i Hilmi between 1915-1927, in a series titled "Ottoman Life in Past Centuries". The first edition of Altınay's work, Samur Devri (1049-1059), was made in 1927.
During the reign of Sultan Ibrahim, which lasted between 1640 and 1648, a freer administration prevailed compared to the strict rule of Murad the Fourth. Altınay, who started his book with the death of Murad the Fourth, also supports the rumors that Sultan İbrahim, who ascended the throne, was "crazy": "The person who succeeded Sultan Murad was just as cruel and perhaps even more so, an unintelligent and unintelligent madman." Altınay describes the life of Sultan İbrahim and his eight-year reign in an interesting style.
Altınay, who conveys historical events and narrated aspects ranging from the Sultan's curiosity for sable fur to the rebellion of the Janissary Corps aghas, which he carries into the title of the book, presents these topics as subheadings on the first page of his book: Death of Murad the Fourth, Release of Sultan İbrahim from Prison, Kösem Valide, Cinci Hoca in the Palace, Sultan İbrahim's Insanities, Telli Haseki-Şekerpare, Samur and Amber Tax, Aghas Rebellion, Condition and Execution of Sultan Ibrahim.
