Transliterated title: Hamziyya with Mandinka Ajami Glosses. The manuscript is a poem written to praise Prophet Muḥammad. It is written in Arabic with extensive glosses in Mandinka Ajami. It is a panegyric poem called Qaṣīda al-Hamziyya (rhymes with the Arabic letter Hamza), which was composed by the Berber poet al-Būsīrī (1211-1294). Al-Būsīrī is also the author of the famous poem known as Qaṣīda al-Burda (Poem of the Mantle), which praises Prophet Muḥammad. The poem recounts numerous feats of Prophet Muḥammad and celebrates his critical role in the expansion of Islam. The document was copied by Mouhamadou Salimou Kemo Sadio Barro, a grandson of Kemo Barro Diang. Custodial history: The owner inherited it from his father.
