Notlar • Manuscript., • Very thin non-European paper, no chain lines., • Custodial history: Volume donated on 10 March 1948 by Major George Evans Bruce (1867-1949), husband of author Mary Grant Bruce (1878-1958). George was an Irish soldier who served in the British Army's Norfolk Regiment in India, the North-West Frontier (in modern-day Pakistan), and the Andaman Islands during the late1880s and 1890s. He may have acquired this volume in this period. It includes now-rare British-Indian textile labels presumably inserted by Bruce, from companies including G. Robinson & Co., Alexander Collie, Fast Colours, Ralli Bros, and F. Steiner & Co., all of Manchester. These labels feature text in English, Devanagari and Landa (?) scripts, with occasional verso manuscript inscriptions in Urdu and Sindhi scripts. They were produced in Britain and affixed to textile bales traded in India, primarily Calcutta and Bombay (Kolkata and Mumbai).
