| Sample Text | This early 19th-century work by Qara Hafiz Efendi on Arabic rhetoric is a commentary on the summary of the key by Jalal al-Din Muhammad al-Qazwini (1267 or 1268–1338), known as the Qazwini orator. The summary of the key itself was an explanation of the key to the sciences by Yusuf bin Abi Bakr al-Sakaki (born 1160). Al-Qazwini was a student of Al-Sakaki, and both were distinguished scholars of Arabic rhetoric. Effendi's work also contains excerpts from another work, a dictionary of the uses of language, metaphor, and simile by Ayyub ibn Musa al-Kafawi. This manuscript is part of the Bašaček Collection of Islamic Manuscripts housed in the University Library in Bratislava, Slovakia, and was inscribed by UNESCO on the Memory of the World Register of Documentary Heritage in 1997. Safwat Beg BaŠašić (1870-1934) was a Bosnian scholar, poet, journalist, and museum director who collected 284 manuscript volumes and 365 printed volumes reflecting the development of Islamic civilization from its beginnings until the early twentieth century. |
