This work deals with the wonders of the world. The author describes the remarkable things he observed in his travels and reproduces the more or less fabulous descriptions taken from other sources. He says he composed this book while in Mosul in 557 A.H., at the request of his friend Abou-Ḥafs ʿOmar al-Ardabîlî. The work is divided, apart from the introduction, into four sections (ابواب), of which here are the headings: 1° Description of the world and its inhabitants, men and geniuses (فى صفة الـدنـيــا و سكّانها من انسها و جانّها); 2° wonders of various countries and remarkable buildings (فى صفة عجـايب البلدان و غـرايـب الـبـنـيـان); 3° description of the seas, their extraordinary animals, and what they produce in terms of ambergris and pitch; indication of the various species of naphtha and flammable substances found in the islands (فى صفة البحار و عجايب حيواناتها و ما يخرج منها من العنبر و القار و ما فى جزايرها من انواع النفط و لنار); 4° on the excavations (it must be read الحفاير, instead of الحـضـايـر), the tombs and the bones found there (فى صفات الحضاير و القبور و ما تضمنت من العظام الخ).

The author describes the remarkable things he observed in his travels and reproduces the more or less fabulous descriptions taken from other sources. He says he composed this book while in Mosul in 557 A.H., at the request of his friend Abou-Ḥafs ʿOmar al-Ardabîlî.
