In this study, an answer will be sought to the question of which new topics and methods have come to the fore in the field of sociology of religion in the last decade and how they reflect social dynamics. Rapid changes brought about by globalization in the last decade, developments in communication tools, changes in the field of information and the rise of artificial intelligence have significantly affected the relationship between society and religion. The speed of these changes creates difficulties in monitoring the social impacts they create. For this reason, which topics are coming to the fore in the sociology of religion is an important problem, especially for young researchers. In this study, using the artificial intelligence-based Scite citation database, studies in the sociology of religion produced in English in Europe and North America in the last decade are listed and frequently recurring topics that have not been discussed before are coded. As a result, it has been determined that four main categories have come to the fore in the last decade: a) Digital religion, b) lived religion, c) ethnicity and migration, d) lastly, religious non-belonging (non-religion). The topics of each category have been examined through carefully selected articles, aiming to provide theoretical frameworks for new researchers in the sociology of religion and significant contributions to applied research. These four themes focus on the changing religious experiences and transformation of religious identity in contemporary society. “Digital Religion” examines the interaction between religious individuals and digital media, highlighting the opportunities and challenges of the transition to online religious services, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. This theme analyzes how technology produces new forms of religious expression and digital ways of communion, while also questioning issues of religious authority and authenticity. “Lived Religion” focuses on aspects of personal and social religious life, emphasizing how individuals integrate religious beliefs into their daily routines and the fluidity of religious identity outside institutional contexts. The “Ethnicity and Immigration” theme explores the intersections of race, religion, and white privilege, examining how religious identity is shaped by racial dynamics and the systemic challenges faced by marginalized groups within religious communities. Finally, “Non-Religion” points to the next phase of secularism, exploring the reasons behind religious non-alignment and its social consequences, addressing the construction and maintenance of secular identities and the responses of religious institutions and public policies to growing secularism. These themes help us comprehensively understand the evolving landscape of religion and spirituality in the modern world. The findings of this study show that the sociology of religion is moving away from traditional themes and focusing on micro issues brought about by the post-modern age. Ultimately, the research highlights the resilience and adaptability of the sociology of religion to explore new areas of research, despite ongoing challenges and criticism. However, traditional methodologies are still dominant; It suggests that new tools and methods should be included in studies to better understand the complex and fluid nature of contemporary social structure. This study offers a basis for future theoretical and applied research in the field of sociology of religion, providing valuable information for researchers, students and academics in related fields. The comprehensive approach to analyzing recent trends and themes in the sociology of religion highlights the dynamic and evolving nature of the field.
