In the United States of America (USA), where the foundation of spiritual counseling practice was laid, a professional and systematic field of spiritual counseling has been formed over the years. However, since spiritual counseling is a newly developing field of practice in Turkey, a systematic structure has not been formed yet. Therefore, US spiritual counseling theory and practice are important for Türkiye. The aim of this study is to examine the perspectives and practices of Healthcare Chaplaincy practitioners in the USA, which has a long history, and thus to shed light on the field of spiritual counseling in Türkiye by benefiting from US practices. The research was conducted using a qualitative approach and is based on semi-structured interview technique. In-depth interviews were conducted with 14 chaplains at the Healthcare Chaplaincy unit of Morristown Medical Center between 20-27 July 2018, and the experiences of the participants were tried to be made visible through the content analysis method. A semi-structured interview form was used as a data collection tool in the research. In this interview form, information is first obtained about the demographic information of the participants and how long they have been working as a chaplain. Then, there are three sections: participants' opinions about Healthcare Chaplaincy, practice experience in Healthcare Chaplaincy, and chaplains' suggestions to spiritual advisors in Turkey. Our findings show that the participants' experiences coincide with the literature. One of the key findings that stands out is the fact that clinical spiritual counseling training is one of the most basic standards in spiritual counseling practice. It is possible to state that this clinical spiritual counseling training system implemented in the USA is a remarkable model that can be taken as an example for Türkiye in the field of spiritual counseling.
