Notes Adequate research has not been conducted on the early history of fiqh, when both its subject and issues matured. The role of Abu Hanifa in the emergence of the science of fiqh and the development of its method is a fact acknowledged by his supporters and opponents. For this reason, the issues of fiqh, which were detailed for the first time in the scientific circle led by Abu Hanifa in the city of Kufa in Iraq, provide very valuable data that will shed light on the early history of fiqh. Today, we have a very valuable work that we can call the records of this circle: Muhammad b. Kitâbü'l-Asl written by Hasan al-Şeybânî. In this study, which aims to analyze the Fasting Section of this work, the criticisms of this intellectual heritage put forward by Abu Hanifa are first emphasized. Then, the elaboration (tafri') of the 219 issues in the Fasting Section was discussed as an analysis of the method of fiqh. As a result of the study, it was concluded that two concept pairs played a very critical role in Abu Hanifa's fiqh method: Usûl-furû' and qiyas-istihsan. In addition, it has been concluded that the hypothetical fiqh method of generating virtual questions in order to understand the logic behind the fiqh questions is a basic method of fiqh. As a result, the claim that Abu Hanifa played a leading role in all these processes and that, as Shafii said, Abu Hanifa was the founding father of the science of fiqh, has been confirmed by this study.
