Linda attended a convent school as a child but was forced to leave school at the age of 12 because her parents could not afford school tuition fees. Until the age of 14 she worked in factories. After this she was employed by the convent school to teach elementary school students. At the age of 17 she got married and became a homemaker. Towards the end of the 1940s she became involved in the struggle for Lebanese women's right to vote and joined the Lebanese League for Women's Rights, which works for gender equality in all spheres. She remains a member of the League and has been the League president and, at the time of the interview, was responsible for foreign affairs in the League. Linda also helped establish the Lebanese Women's Council, of which she became president in 1996. The same year, she ran for parliamentary elections as an independent candidate, but was unsuccessful. She was active in opposing the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1982 through an international speaking tour. ( en )
