Notlar This is a collection of six treatises (rasaʾil). The first treatise is Tahdhid al-Ikhwan min Nisbat al-Kufr ila Ahl al-Iman, which addresses the issue of declaring Muslims as infidels (kufr). The second chapter of this treatise discusses the acceptance of repentance (tawbah) from an infidel (kafir), heretic (zindiq), and hypocrite (munafiq). The second treatise is Qawl al-Sadid li-Bayan man Yajibu ʿalayhi al-Taqalid, which focuses on establishing the obligation of following (taqlid) a juristic school. The proof of seeking help (istiqana) can also be found on page 100. The third treatise is Tadhyil al-Ajwibah lil-Masaʾil al-ʿAsharah, which answers ten issues, including the abandonment of raising the hands (rafʿ al-yadayn) in prayer, the issue of reciting "amin" silently (ikhfaʾ) during prayer, placing the hands below the navel while praying, reciting Surat al-Fatihah behind the imam, accepting the taqlid of the four Sunni schools (madhahib), the timing of zuhr prayer, the equality of Prophets and Gabriel with ordinary believers in the essence of faith (iman), the necessity of both explicit and implicit textual evidence from the Qurʾan and hadith for enforcing judicial decisions (qadaʾ), the lack of enforcement of legal punishment on someone marrying a mahram, and the rules regarding a pond measuring 10x10 sharʿi yards. The fourth treatise covers various legal issues, including the ruling of a judge when the plaintiff is absent, the use of blasphemous words without seeking forgiveness, the acceptance of repentance from an apostate (murtadd), hiding testimony, and condemning Muslims. The fifth treatise, Kalam al-Sadid fi al-ʿAmal bil-Qurʾan al-Majid, discusses the principles of applying the verses of the Qurʾan in various contexts, understanding legal rulings, and extracting judgments from the Qurʾan. The sixth treatise, Hidayat al-Muslimin, begins on page 155. It starts with an incident that occurred in 1300 Hijri at the Jamiʿ Masjid in Peshawar, where a man publicly declared that prayers led by someone who uses tobacco are invalid, and it is not permissible to perform their funeral prayer. This caused doubts and confusion among the general public about the faith of those who use tobacco. Consequently, this treatise was written to address the legal aspects of this issue from a jurisprudential perspective. | The phrase on line 9 of the first page "ʿIlaqah Peshawar aur Qurb o Jawar men" and the beginning of Hidayat al-Muslimin suggest that these writings are connected to Peshawar. At the start of page 75 in the second treatise, "Faqir ʿAbd al-Rabb" is mentioned, who may be the author of this treatise, though it is also possible that "ʿAbd al-Rabb" is being used in a figurative sense. For more on the subject of tobacco, refer to books numbered 02690, 04977, and 06001 in this collection. | Digitization for the Sufi Shrine Libraries of the Afghan-Pakistan Frontier collection was sponsored by the Modern Endangered Archives Program with funding from Arcadia. | public domain
